Before making a brief appearance in LA’s win over Chicago, Drew Timme torched G League defenses from all over the floor. The 6’9” former Gonzaga star has put up 22.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 blocks across 11 contests. He has also shot 55.7% from the field, 20% from three and 80% from the free-throw line.

Timme has impressed with his versatile interior scoring throughout the season, whether it’s being a solid finisher out of the pick and roll or calling his own number on drives. He’s also continued to grow as a playmaker, flashing an otherwise underrated skill of his by averaging a career high in dimes.

The Lakers have clearly trusted Timme to get some big league opportunities, as Thursday marked his 21st game of the season in LA. If the center rotation continues to be banged up, Timme time may see a well-deserved extension.

Chris Mañon

The final Laker worth highlighting has yet to truly receive his due, but he’s been a defensive menace for South Bay. Chris Mañon joined the Lakers as a known perimeter pest, and he has proven it during his time in the G League this season. Across 25 games, he has racked up nearly two steals per contest while dropping 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists on 48.5% shooting.

Mañon’s defense is arguably the strongest part of the game. He has had four games with five steals—including two during South Bay’s winning streak. His offense has come along nicely, however, and he’s shown bursts of athleticism and physicality when scoring in the paint. Mañon’s three-point shot is a swing skill toward his NBA future, and if he can become consistent there while boasting elite defense, the Lakers will need to have a look at the 24-year-old guard.

The South Bay Lakers are one step closer to history as they battle the Iowa Wolves tonight at 7 p.m.
