Jalen Williams‘ return game proved to be a huge win for OKC, but will he be able to stabilize the team’s issues in the long run? It did look like the Thunder were rolling back into a much better competitive squad than ever. But there are a few hiccups in his game that certainly need addressing to begin with. One can even say that his return was forced, like OKC didn’t have a choice but to roll their cards on.
Williams has been one of the prominent players on the Thunder roster. He is capable of turning up the energy for the team. One can even say that his presence is bringing a whole lot of dynamics to Oklahoma City. It is changing their game to a whole new level. They’re becoming a fearsome team on both ends of the floor.
Jalen Williams’ Return Game Hints at Thunder’s Missing Potential
Williams’ return to the Thunder helped them get back from a two-game skid. As a Thunder fan, no one is accustomed to losing on a consistent basis. After all, the Thunder are a winning team, and it is really hurting fans to see their squad lose. With a resounding win against the Lakers, OKC is feeling good at this point. That’s thanks to J-Dub, who propelled them to a much-needed win.

J-Dub Still Has His Clutch Game
Prior to this game, the Thunder had gone 13-9 in clutch games. That’s quite a record, whether looking at it on a positive or negative side. Jalen Williams, for what it’s worth, made it possible to add one more win on that list. J-Dub was shooting at a meager 27.3% from the field through three quarters. He even only had 13 points to start the fourth, but he eventually found a way through.
With five minutes left to play, Williams crashed the glass, attacked the basket, and even played good defense. He would go on to drop his final 10 points in the fourth and even sink a jumper that would later prove to be the dagger. J-Dub then knocked down the final four free throws to ice the game for the 119-110 win.

First game off the hamstring injury, and definitely on a minutes restriction, Williams put the Thunder on his back when it mattered most. Now that’s what they’ve been missing all along, and it says a lot about how they need him now more than ever.
Jalen Williams’ Return Shows Lingering Issues
Despite a strong outing in his return, Williams struggled mightily from the field, only shooting 6-of-17. He even missed all of his two three-point shots, both falling as airballs. The playmaking also wasn’t there, as he only had one assist overall. If you don’t believe his struggles, he also finished with two turnovers and was a -10 despite his big game.
The Thunder are missing key playmakers in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Ajay Mitchell due to injuries. Adding Jared McCain doesn’t really solve things right away, and they’re not even playing him big minutes right now. This just means that OKC needs Williams to get back to his impressive playmaking and generate looks for the rest of the team.

In fact, no other OKC player scored more than 20 points aside from Williams. Isaiah Joe had 19, Alex Caruso finished with 17, Chet Holmgren had 13, Cason Wallace had 12, and even Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams finished with double-figures. However, none of them really had that synergy that could have made them stand out on the floor.
Williams coming up with impressive assists would have given the Thunder better plays and a much better shooting percentage. The team ended up shooting 48.3% from the field, which isn’t that bad, but that they can certainly do better than most people think.
Can Williams Help OKC Get Strong by the All-Star Break?
J-Dub is a key piece in the championship roster. But with SGA missing time and some key Thunder pieces yet to come up with strong games, it’s safe to say that Williams is here to spice things up. J-Dub had a satisfactory showing, and the Thunder will be playing two more games before they get to rest and take a breather.
For now, J-Dub just needs to play strong and keep the Thunder on the winning side before the All-Star break. Other than that, the rest of the bigger expectations on him could come when the second half of the season begins.
