Oregon State Transfer Choosing Between 3 ACC Schools, Decision Expected Soon

Oregon State transfer Damarco Minor has been in the NCAA transfer portal since April 4, though he recently cut his list to three ACC schools. On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Minor cut his list to Pittsburgh, Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

Oregon State Transfer Down To 3 ACC Schools

Minor demonstrated an ability to run a team in his first season in a high-major conference after spending the previous two seasons at SIU-Edwardsville. The 6-0 point guard is a strong point of attack defender and was one of the Beavers’ best players. He also developed as a strong distributor this past season and reduced his turnovers last season, compiling a 2.3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Besides ball-handling, Minor is strong in the mid-range. Minor is also an excellent free-throw shooter, though he does struggle getting to the line. Additionally, he is a solid defensive rebounder.

Minor also struggled with efficiency last season. He is not a good shooter, particularly from deep, where he has shot less than 30% from deep for his career.

Demarco Minor Schedules Upcoming Visits

Minor averaged 9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 5.1 assists last season. Minor knocked down less than one three a game, on 3.3 attempts, while shooting .397/.282/.835. He produced one double-double while scoring in double-figures while scoring in double-figures 16 times.

Minor has one year of eligibility left. The Harvey (Ill.) native began his collegiate career at South Suburban in South Holland (IL). After being named NJCAA DII Player of the Year at South Suburban, Minor spent two seasons at SIUE, where he earned All-OVC honors in 2024.

Jaime Shaw of On3 said yesterday that Minor is slated to visit FSU on Monday and is also expected to visit Pitt.

Speaking with sources, Minor is expected on campus with Florida State on Monday,” Shaw stated. “Speaking with sources, it sounds like Florida State and Pittsburgh are the two to watch here.

“At this point in the process, it is worth paying attention to the visits,” Shaw continued. “I am told that he is supposed to visit Pittsburgh after the Seminoles. Pay attention to this Florida State visit and if he makes it on campus to Pittsburgh.”

Florida State Seminoles

First-year head coach Luke Loucks has gotten off to a pretty good start at rebuilding the roster that has just one returning player, AJ Swinton, from Leonard Hamilton‘s final season. Loucks has already secured the commitments of five transfers, including Jacksonville transfer Robert McCray IV and former St. Bonaventure transfer Lajae Jones.

Depending on how Loucks sees McCray as a shooting or point guard, Minor could step in as the Seminoles’ starting center from day one if he chooses FSU. However, Loucks still has plenty of work to do with the roster, so that a lot can change.

Pittsburgh Panthers

Pitt has posted three straight winning seasons, marking the first time they have done so since the mid-2010s. However, six players from last year’s team, which went 17-15, have entered the transfer portal, led by Jaland Lowe and Guillermo Diaz.

On the positive, Cameron Corhen and Brandin Cummings are among three returnees. Jeff Capel has secured the commitment of three players as part of his 2025 recruiting class — Iowa State transfers Nojus Indrusaitis and Dishon Jackson. Incoming four-star freshman Omari Withspoon (Washington, DC) has signed with Pitt.

Suppose he chooses the Panthers. Minor figures to compete with Cummings for Pitt’s starting point guard job. Witherspoon, a 6-4 combo guard, may also be in the mix.

Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech is coming off its first losing campaign since 2015-16, when the Hokies posted a 13-19 record. This snaps the Hokies ‘ four-season winning streak. Mike Young, who is 105-85 in six seasons in Blacksburg, has received one commitment from a transfer in West Virginia forward Amani Hansberry.
