Ryan Conwell committed to Louisville.

Louisville Gets Another Top Transfer Guard for 2025

Louisville had many questions revolving around its roster after the defeat to Creighton in the NCAA Tournament. However, they solved one of the major issues with picking up Adrian Wooley in the transfer portal on Monday. The roster for Louisville just got better, as star Xavier guard Ryan Conwell committed to play for the Cardinals. Louisville made most of their damage in the portal last season, and they look set to pull together another great roster. Does this bring Louisville closer to ACC contention? Will Conwell make a huge difference for the Cardinals? What does Conwell bring to the table?

Louisville Gets Ryan Conwell Another Top Transfer Guard for 2025

Conwell’s Production

Louisville represents Conwell’s fourth team in as many years, but he has been highly productive for all of them. This past season, he averaged 16.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, he was also extremely efficient, shooting 45% from the field and 41.3% from three. Conwell is a pure scorer who can make plays when needed. He only has one year of eligibility remaining, but he produced similar numbers the previous year at Indiana State. Conwell appears set to fill in perfectly at shooting guard for the new-look Louisville team in 2025. Conwell’s three-point ability will be a key asset for the Cardinals.

Does Conwell Fit with Wooley?

It appears like a match made in heaven. Wooley can score with the best of them but provides more playmaking than Conwell. They both are a good size for guards, so they won’t struggle to cover opponents. They shoot threes incredibly well, and their athleticism makes for difficult matchups at the top of the key. While Louisville still has holes, the two guards should fit perfectly together.

The only big missing pieces they need are a three-and-D wing and center. Having athletic, scoring guards opens the door for some lesser offensive skill from the frontcourt. However, adding shooting would open the floor for the guards to attack the rim and make plays. A quality center would provide a strong pick-and-roll option for the guards to get downhill more often. The combination of Conwell and Wooley will open doors for Louisville to have a high-octane offense. Their size also makes them a threat to some of the bigger threats in the ACC.

Can Louisville Contend for the ACC Title with Ryan Conwell?

Duke is competing for a national championship and isn’t going anywhere. Louisville will have to deal with the Blue Devils for years to come. However, Conwell joins Wooley to make serious noise in the ACC. Duke has size and athleticism, but Conwell and company could lead Louisville to compete against them. Duke’s defensive prowess stems from their ability to create mismatches with constant switching on screens. With these two guards, Louisville has opened the door to do the same thing and not be overmatched against the Blue Devils.

Conwell isn’t the best player in the class but still ranks 11th. He won’t individually raise the Cardinals to ACC and national contention, but with Wooley and likely more transfers incoming, Conwell could be the senior leader that helps Pat Kelsey’s Cardinals take the next step. This is another huge singing for Louisville in what appears to be another elite transfer class.
