Nets Should Avoid Trading For Devin Booker

In recent weeks, trade rumors have surrounded the Phoenix Suns. Numerous reports suggest they will trade forward Kevin Durant this offseason. Consequently, they might also consider trading guard Devin Booker if Durant departs. Although they are rebuilding, the Brooklyn Nets should avoid making a deal for Devin Booker.

Nets Should Avoid Trading For Devin Booker

After suffering a disappointing 109-104 loss on Tuesday evening to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Nets continue to be in position to secure a lottery pick in June’s draft. They hope to draft high enough to select a player such as Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, and Cooper Flagg. Additionally, many view the Nets as contenders to sign free agents and trade for star players this offseason.

It appears that the Nets are planning their rebuild around younger talent, led by Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas. However, the Nets could change their direction and choose to use their draft picks to try to acquire Durant and/or Booker.

Suns May Be Considering Trading Booker

Booker has excelled during his playing career. He has earned four All-Star selections and has played ten seasons with the Suns. This season, he averages 26 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. He also entered the first year of his $220+ million contract. For the 2024-25 season, he is earning $49,205,800.

The Suns have attempted to build a super team with Booker as their franchise player. In 2023, they traded four first-round picks to acquire Durant, emphasizing their desire to win a championship. Since then, the Suns have had two playoff losses and are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference. Consequently, rumors suggest that the Suns may consider trading Booker.

Nets Should Avoid Trading For Devin Booker

The Nets should avoid Devin Booker and not look to reunite with Kevin Durant. Several teams have already inquired about Durant. Trading for Booker means meeting the Suns’ draft demands. According to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic, sources informed the Republic that the Suns could get four first-round picks and a rising star in his third or fourth year for Booker.

Despite Booker being in his prime, the Nets should remember the multiple draft picks that were given up for James Harden, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, and Ben Simmons. Those decisions prevented the Nets from being able to develop young pieces. Due to the slow trade market for high-profile teams, lower-profile teams like the Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons, and Houston Rockets would be more suitable for Booker.

Nets Should Focus On Rebuild

If the Suns trade Booker and Durant, their asking price will be high. The Nets should focus on building younger players. The team has a 22-43 record and is the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference. Tanking may be their best option for the rest of this season, despite the players wanting to win. Their lottery position will be influenced by remaining losses. Therefore, management needs to plan wisely for the draft and the rebuilding. Nets’ fans just want a contending team.
