A byproduct of their pride and the spectacular Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks have been pretty competitive since the Luka Doncic trade. Even still, without Anthony Davis, they’re missing a key piece. That’s why every update on Davis’s health is read with bated breath, especially as his legacy is now attached to Doncic’s,.
Fortunately the Mavericks, their All-Star big man is “doing extremely well” after being diagnosed with an adductor strain.
Mavs Update Anthony Davis’s Injury Status
“He’s a great dude,” Mavs head coach Jason Kidd tells reporters after their victory over the Charlotte Hornets. “He’s doing extremely well. The energy is positive, he feels good…Happy that he’s on the court, but just in conversion he says he feels great.”

“So, hopefully he’s trending in the right direction…,” Kidd adds “…We’ll find out here shortly how everything’s going.”
Having Davis back would definitely help them be better in the paint, whether he’s defending the rim or grabbing rebounds. However, the team’s issues in those areas have been exacerbated by Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II‘s injuries. Where he’ll make the most unique difference when he returns is on offense.
As with most big men, a significant portion of Davis’s shots will be lobs and putbacks. Nonetheless, he’s more than capable of getting his own buckets. With his length and shooting touch, he’s a mismatch at power forward. Due to his athleticism and shooting range, he’s a handful for opposing centers. That’s not to mention that his passing ability and willingness to make the pass makes him even more difficult to guard.
As a result, having him in the fold takes a lot of pressure off of Irving, who has averaged 27.8 points per game since the Doncic trade. It also makes life easier for guys like Max Christie, PJ Washington, and Naji Marshall, as they won’t have to overextend themselves offensively. With that being said, the Mavericks may have found a solution to at least one problem while Davis (and Gafford) are out.
Moses Brown Speaks
During their win against the Hornets, Moses Brown made his first start for the Mavs. In 31 minutes, the 7-foot-2 center recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and two seals. Box scores don’t always tell the story. Nevertheless, he was as much of a force in the paint as his numbers suggest.
Following the game, Brown was asked to speak to reporters at the podium. During his presser, he touched on his relationship with Kidd.
“I’ve noticed with Coach, even in the first time I was here, it’s about building trust with him,” he says. “If he continues to see me work, he continues to grow and develop throughout the years I wasn’t here, so coming back, it was just an instant effect…”

Brown also discussed his chemistry with Irving.
“Me and Kyrie kinda got that chemistry already,” he says. “I know he’s really aggressive, I know people change the way their game plans are gonna be because he’s so good at what he does…Just his IQ.

“He (has) a lot of nonverbal contact just giving me a lot of looks, letting me know what to do,” he adds.
Currently on a 10-day contract, Brown sounds like he could be with Dallas for the remainder of the season.
