Stephen A. Smith As 2028 Presidential Nominee Gains Momentum

In a shockingly turn of events, ESPN’s Stephen A Smith could be the Democratic presidential nominee in 2028. Prediction market Kalshi allows you to bet on that proposition. While Smith has given mixed signals about a potential run, Kalshi currently lists his odds at 7.26%. A $100 bet on Smith winning the nomination could return $1,241.

Smith shares the same odds as notable politicians like Pete Buttigieg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Gretchen Whitmer. Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, and Wes Moore have shorter odds. Surprisingly, Smith ranks above Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, and Raphael Warnock in the betting markets.

Despite these odds, Smith has repeatedly stated his aversion to campaigning. He insists that if he could skip the electioneering process and go straight to the presidency, he would consider the job.

James Carville Slams Smith’s Political Aspirations

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville took issue with Smith’s political musings. On his Politicon podcast, Carville bluntly criticized Smith’s take on the Democratic Party, saying, “When it comes to sports, I find him insightful. When it comes to politics, he don’t know his ass from a hole in the ground.”

Carville accused Smith of running his mouth about the party’s supposed lack of talent. Smith, never one to back down from a verbal spat, fired back on his own podcast. He challenged Carville, questioning whether the veteran strategist was ready for the “havoc” Smith could wreak if he focused on politics.

A Powerhouse at ESPN

Beyond political speculation, Smith is making moves in his professional career. He is negotiating a contract extension that could make him ESPN’s first-ever $100 million talent. The proposed deal, reportedly worth at least $20 million annually for five years, would keep him as the network’s highest-paid personality.

ESPN Bet and Disney will contribute to his salary, allowing Smith to expand beyond sports content. There are also rumors of a SiriusXM radio deal covering non-sports topics. Smith’s influence continues to grow, proving he is a dominant media force.

The State of the Democratic Party

The Democratic Party is struggling to recover from a devastating 2024 election. Donald Trump won a landslide victory, and Republicans now control both houses of Congress. Public perception of the party is at an all-time low. According to Quinnipiac University, 57% of registered voters view the Democratic Party unfavorably. Only 31% hold a favorable opinion.

A CNN poll revealed that 58% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents believe the party needs major changes or complete reform. With the party searching for a new direction, could an unconventional candidate like Smith gain traction?

Outsiders in American Politics

America has a history of electing outsiders. Ronald Reagan transitioned from Hollywood actor to president. Donald Trump, a real estate mogul and reality TV star, won the presidency in 2016. Charisma and media dominance often outweigh political experience.

Smith possesses both traits. He commands attention, engages in heated debates, and influences millions daily. His expertise lies in sports, but his ability to connect with audiences is undeniable. Could he position himself as the Democratic Party’s unexpected savior? It’s unlikely, but in American politics, anything is possible.

Stephen A Smith as the Presidential Nominee in 2028 is Insane But Not Impossible

Smith’s 2028 presidential odds remain long, but the discussion itself is telling. The Democratic Party is in turmoil, and voters crave fresh leadership. While Smith claims he won’t run, his charisma and media presence keep him in the conversation. Whether as a political force or a cultural icon, Stephen A Smith will continue to shape the debate—one fiery take at a time.
