Nets Plan To Make Roster Available For Trades

The Brooklyn Nets have until 3:00 PM ET on February 6 to trade players on their roster. That is the date and time of the 2025 NBA trade deadline. As the team rebuilds and plans for its future, they are making it clear that the entire Nets roster is available for trade.

Nets Plan To Make Roster Available For Trades

The Nets currently hold a 9-11 record and are looking to rebuild for the future. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that the Nets will make “just about everyone” on their roster available in a trade as long as they don’t take back any long-term money,  but they won’t be just giving someone up simply to make a move right now.

Although Windhorst noted that the Nets will be willing to trade most of their roster by the trade deadline, they have several plans they want to accomplish if they do so. They are willing to trade everyone, provided they do not take on long-term money.

Over the summer, the team did not hide their rebuilding process when they traded Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks. In return, they received six first-round picks, including four unprotected picks and an unprotected pick swap. Before the trade with the Knicks, they also reacquired their first-round picks in 2025 and 2026 from the Houston Rockets, which they originally sent to the Rockets following the James Harden trade in 2021.

What’s At Stake

Expiring contracts for the Nets, include Ben Simmons, Dennis Schroder, and Bojan Bogdanovic. They each will hit the free agency market after the season. Another player the Nets need to decide on is Cam Thomas, who is averaging 24.7 points per game. Thomas would be a great player for the Nets’ future, but there could be a team in the league that offers good value for him.

Windhorst noted that the team could have up to $70 million in cap space going into the 2025 offseason. However, there is a risk that the Nets might win too many games early in the season to finish among the teams with high odds for a top pick in 2025. It is either the Nets play for a playoff spot, or they trade away players to tank for a better draft position. The 2025 draft class could feature Cooper Flagg from Duke, Dylan Harper, and Airious “Ace” Bailey from Rutgers. They are considered by many as the top three players available if they decide to enter the 2025 NBA Draft.

Decisions

The Nets are in a great position to reorganize their team for the first time in a while. The draft capital they could acquire might be an excellent reset and help reduce their financial obligations. This would be a win for the organizations. Will Sean Marks deliver? Most likely. He wants to create a legacy for himself and give the team the restart they need.

Entire Nets Roster Is Available For Trade

Fans of the Nets appreciate the team’s efforts this season and the promising future ahead. Reports are that nearly the entire Nets roster is available for trade. As a result, there could possibly be an entirely different roster for the 2025-26 season. It will be interesting to see who is traded, who the team will receive, and who remains.
