Gabe Vincent: The Steal of Free Agency?

Gabe Vincent heads to the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers had a lot of success, but their success continued with adding Gabe Vincent to their team for this upcoming season.

Vincent comes off being a key member of the Miami Heat’s NBA Finals run. The Lakers signed him to a 3-year, $33 million deal. People considered this a steal of free agency, as Vincent is an excellent role player.

Gabe Vincent is the Newest Los Angeles Laker

Background

Gabe Vincent was undrafted out of UC Santa Barbara and is now entering his 5th season in the NBA. He comes off the best season of his career as he produced 9.4 points per game, the most of his career. Vincent was synonymous with the Heat’s undrafted player success in the postseason. Vincent looks to bring success to LA.

What does Vincent Bring?

Shooting

Vincent shot 37.8% from three in the postseason and is excellent in spot-up situations as well. Gabe shot an effective field goal percentage of 65% on spot-up opportunities this season. He shoots it well in the pick and roll, off the catch, off screens, and from the foul line. The Lakers need shooters, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis being more paint dominant. Additionally, the Lakers shot below the league average last year from three. They were 27th in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 34.4%. Furthermore, they shot 33.5% in the playoffs

While Vincent isn’t a star guard, his shooting brings optimism to the Lakers.

Playoff Experience

Although his shooting may be essential for the Lakers, Gabe’s playoff experience is another addition he brings to the Lakers. Vincent made the NBA Finals and was a key contributor. Therefore, he knows what it takes to win. The Lakers look to get to the NBA Finals this upcoming season, so Vincent helps with that goal.

Ball Handling Responsibilities

Gabe Vincent played point guard this season for Miami. Furthermore, he generated good offense playing out of the pick-and-roll for the Heat. With primary ball handlers like LeBron, Austin Reaves, and D’Angelo Russell, Vincent adds another guard that can take the load off LeBron and run the offense himself. Especially in the Regular Season, LeBron must be as healthy.

Last Word

Gabe Vincent is a superb pickup for the Lakers. His shooting, playoff experience, and ability to run the offense effectively are all skillsets to help the Lakers succeed this upcoming season. His professionalism will radiate on the younger guys. The Lakers should be a better team after this new addition. Lakers fans should be excited about Gabe Vincent.
