Bobby Portis Signs With the Milwaukee Bucks

Bobby Portis

Bobby Portis signed with the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. The two sides agreed to a 4-year contract worth $49 million, or $12.25 million per season. This contract ties him down through the 2025-26 season.

Bobby Portis Signs with the Milwaukee Bucks

Over his 7-year NBA career, Bobby Portis has played for the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, and Milwaukee Bucks. He has put up 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for his career. He was originally drafted in the first round, 22nd overall of the 2015 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. Last season he scored 14.6 points and 9.1 rebounds for the Milwaukee Bucks. Portis reportedly has a player option in the final year of his deal.

Many did not expect Portis to re-sign with Milwaukee in free agency, but the 27-year-old will now stick around with the Bucks for at least the next four seasons. Portis will likely have a similar role to last season, where he started 59 games for the oft-injured center Brook Lopez.

What Does This Mean for the Future?

Portis will look to continue to provide superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo with his excellent floor spacing. The energetic big man shot 39.3 percent from three this season, attempting a career-high 4.7 per game. Portis is also a great defensive and offensive rebounder, averaging a career-high 9.1 rebounds per game this season. The Arkansas product was the fourth-highest scorer on the Bucks last season and can provide instant offense and solid defense.
