Women’s Basketball Bracket Prediction

Caitlin Clark

This season’s parity abounds all over the country. No team is safe from an upset, and teams rise and fall without warning. However, there are very few constants making March even more memorable. This piece will present a women’s basketball bracket prediction based on current results and how things are trending for specific teams. I will highlight the movers and shakers in each region and some upset picks that will bust everyone’s brackets come March. I will also have a section that discusses the current state of the bubble. The link to the bracket is NCAA Women’s Basketball Predictions – Google Sheets.

Women’s Basketball Bracket Prediction

Greensboro Region

This region houses the overall number one seed South Carolina. They have just one blemish against Missouri and look like the best team in the country with ten ranked wins. Apart from the Gamecocks, this region is filled with fantastic teams and intriguing storylines. Iowa and Caitlin Clark are a massive threat because they now seem to have other options on offense. McKenna Warnock has played outstanding as of late in their back-to-back wins over Indiana. A sweet sixteen Matchup between SC and Iowa would be an absolute treat. Tennessee is also in this region; the Vols are slumping as of late, and with the loss of Jordan Horston, I see a potential first-round upset in the cards.

Iowa State is the two seed in this region led by Ashley Joens; this team is a threat. However, Florida Gulf Coast has the three-point shooting to win a first-round game, and Portland gets a surprise bid by winning the WCC tournament again.

Spokane Region

On the West Coast, Stanford is the one seed still undefeated in PAC-12 play. The Cardinal have superior experience and are a significant threat to repeat. However, this region also houses Maryland, a team that looks primed for a deep run based on recent performances. Oregon is in this region a dangerous team but one that has had a ton of ups and downs this season. LSU is the two seed in the region, and they have the team and coach to make it to Minneapolis.

If you are looking for an upset, look no further than Georgia Tech vs. Gonzaga. 12 seed Gonzaga has excellent three-point shooting, and Georgia Tech struggles to score if the Zags can contain Lorela Cubaj, they will move on to face Maryland in the second round.

Wichita Region

The one seed here in Louisville, despite the loss to UNC, this team looks very dangerous thanks to their stiff defense. However, that 8/9 game between Arizona State and Arkansas poses a significant problem. The Cardinals must be careful as both the Razorbacks and Sun Devils can beat good teams. 5 Seed BYU is in this region; they would be coming off a loss to Portland in the WCC final in this scenario. BYU has excellent experience from a team last year that almost beat Arizona. They are a threat to Louisville if they get to the Sweet Sixteen. Baylor and Arizona are the two and the three seeds setting up a titanic sweet sixteen clash. Be wary of ten-seed DePaul; they have great three-point shooting if they make the tournament. They already faced Arizona in the Virgin Islands, where they lost a very close game.

Bridgeport Region

Our final region features NC State as the one seed and UConn playing near their home turf as the two seed assuming everyone is healthy. An elite eight matchup between these teams would be fascinating. However, this women’s basketball bracket prediction features Texas and Michigan. Texas will give NC State some issues in the Sweet Sixteen, and Michigan could threaten UConn.

For upsets, lookout for Delaware, Princeton, and IUPUI; Delaware has a player who has scored 50 twice this season. Princeton has not lost since December, and IUPUI has a win over Iowa on their resume. These three teams could shock the world in March if they make it in.

Bubble Conversation

The Last four in this women’s basketball bracket prediction are Liberty, Dayton, Boston College, and Villanova. Nova beat UConn recently and looks dangerous if they get a bid. Liberty has a win over Virginia Tech and could win the A-sun avoiding this mess altogether and stealing their bid. The first four are Michigan State, Oregon State, Marquette, and Tulane. These teams are very close to crashing the party; a good run in their conference tournaments could save their year. Tulane has a nice win over USF, and they could win the American if another bid is gone!

In this women’s basketball bracket prediction piece, I will add that other teams could get a bid, but these are my most deserving. The construction of this bracket was very challenging; many teams are inconsistent this season, making seeding almost impossible. I will publish another version a few weeks before selection Monday, where a more precise picture might be in focus.
