Sacramento Kings: Three Trade Ideas

The Sacramento Kings are on the cusp of continuing their playoff drought. Their team definitely has talent but simply put, it doesn’t mesh. Due to some of the promising young players they have, it’s time for the Kings to deal some of their larger contracts to focus on building throughout the offseason while also acquiring assets.

Sacramento Kings: Three Trade Ideas

Clearing Cap Space

The trade: Sacramento sends Harrison Barnes and Jahmi’us Ramsey to the Chicago Bulls for Derrick Jones JrTroy Brown Jr, their Daniel Theis trade exception, and a first-round pick.

Chicago is a legitimate contender. One spot they are missing, especially after the Patrick Williams injury, is a wing player. More than that, Barnes is very versatile. He can play both forward positions, making him a very solid player to have alongside DeMar DeRozan. He’s also averaging close to 17 points and six rebounds per game. Barnes may technically be the fourth or fifth option on the Chicago offense, which only shows how good they can truly be with this trade.

Sacramento does this to clear cap space as Barnes’ big contract is still on the books next season. Brown Jr is a young player, although, on an expiring contract, the Kings can monitor his development for the rest of the season. Lastly, they do get a first-round pick asset from this.

Every Team Loves Shooting

The trade: Sacramento sends Buddy Hield and Alex Len to the Washington Wizards for Davis BertansMontrezl Harrell, and a first-round pick.

Washington has some solid talent as well as a superstar in Bradley Beal. This roster hasn’t translated into wins – but when in doubt – add shooting. Hield is one of the top three-point shooters in the league and shoots over nine per game. He’s incredibly efficient with the kind of volume he gets. Washington can hope to become an offensive juggernaut with this trade in hopes of making the playoffs. Bertans was supposed to be one of the premier shooters on this team, but it’s time to look elsewhere.

Sacramento gets Bertans’ contract, which is still more favorable than Hield’s. Ideally, they can have Bertans return to what he once was to improve the team or regain trading value. Harrell is also a very solid big man option to have, but at worst he’s on an expiring contract. The first-round pick should be quite high, and may possibly even be in the lottery.

The Sacramento Kings Opt for a Straight-up Swap

The trade: Sacramento sends De’Aaron Fox to the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons.

Perhaps it’s time for the Kings to switch up their identity. Fox is the best player on the team, but Simmons is also a proven All-Star. Simmons doesn’t have the shooting capabilities of Fox, but he brings in both elite playmaking and defense. Tyrese Haliburton is shaping up to be a terrific guard and the Kings also have Davion Mitchell. This trade lands them a fantastic talent as well as more versatility in their line-ups.

Simmons is pretty much done in Philadelphia. The 76ers must accept that and look elsewhere. Joel Embiid is a generational talent and MVP candidate and needs help as Philadelphia is ready to contend. Fox has a couple of great seasons under his belt, and this season he’s averaging 21 points and five assists per game. His talent can be maximized on the 76ers, and the team once again becomes a true contender.
