Buddy Hield Unhappy With Contract Negotiations

Buddy Hield and the Sacramento Kings are in contract negotiations. However, Hield has grown frustrated with the process and has made his displeasure known publicly. Hield and his agent are reportedly seeking a deal in the range of $110 million in total value, but the team has only offered him $90 million over four seasons, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.

Buddy Hield Frustrated With Sacramento Kings

The Negotiations

It can be argued that the Kings are offering Hield fair value. Offensively, Hield has been inconsistent for much of his career, and nobody is going to accuse him of being a Defensive Player of the Year.

However, Hield is coming off of a career-best season in which he did find consistency on the offensive end of the floor. He averaged 20.7 points per game, on 45.8 percent shooting, and was 42.7 percent from three. He was also responsible for 4.3 offensive win shares, which was much better than his career-high 1.3 going into last season.

With that being said, it’s not hard to see where the team is coming from. Hield has been inconsistent to an extent during his career. Yes, he had his best season last season, but that was one season. It’s not unexpected for the team to want to see that production for another season before passing the $100 million threshold.

How It Will Play Out

When it comes to NBA players, they generally get what they want. While Hield is probably over-valuing himself, he is still one of the better players on the team. Not only is he one of the better players on the team, but they are also an emerging team.

However, Hield has hinted at wanting out of Sacramento.

This is a situation well worth keeping an eye on. If Hield were to demand a trade there would likely be a list of teams wanting to deal for him. Hield has said he wants to stay in Sacramento, but when it comes to contract situations, things can take turns quickly.
