The Milwaukee Bucks extended Eric Bledsoe today. The Bucks signed him to a 4-year/$70M contract. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news of the extension. Bledsoe was set to become a free agent at the end of this season, with his original five-year contract with the Phoenix Suns expiring come summertime. The Bledsoe extension was the latest of Milwaukee’s string of moves since the new year and looks to be a good one.

A Good Signing for the Bucks

In his first full season in Milwaukee after coming over from Phoenix last year, the 29-year-old Bledsoe has been playing well. He’s averaging 15.7 points, 5.5 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game on a career-high 49.2% shooting. However, his three-point shooting (32.2%) has declined this season, reaching his lowest mark since 2011-2012.

Bledsoe has started all season for the conference-leading Bucks, and the team made it clear that they want him around for the future. Having Bledsoe on board for the next few years is important. His veteran presence at the point guard position will be key to their continued success. He’ll be 33 at the time his contract expires. At that point, the team can decide whether to retain him at a lower price or let him walk.

Bucks Continue to Make Moves

The Bucks are no doubt focused on this season as opposed to the future. They hold the #1 seed in the East and wins over all three of their direct competitors. They’re 3-1 against the Toronto Raptors, 2-1 against the Boston Celtics and 1-0 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Given the fact that they will almost certainly see one or more of those teams in a playoff series, that record bodes well for their chances. Bledsoe has been key next to Malcolm Brogdon in the backcourt for the Bucks this season, who look poised to make a playoff push.
