Report: Austin Rivers Agrees to Deal with Memphis Grizzlies

After being traded last offseason and again in the past week. Austin Rivers will be bought out by the Phoenix Suns which will allow him to sign with another team in the league. It has been reported that Rivers will agree to a deal that with the Memphis Grizzlies. A team involved in the infamous three-team deal that fell apart as quickly as it was conceived.

In 29 games this year Rivers has averaged 7.2 points. In those 29 games Rivers has only started twice. He’s shooting 39 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range. This year he’s shooting a career-worst 54 percent from the free throw line.

Last Season

Last year Rivers was a fixture in the starting lineup for the Los Angeles Clippers. He started 59 of his 61 games played. This was a big jump for Rivers as he had never started more than 29 games in his career. Rivers averaged 15 points last year and 38 percent from three-point range both were career highs. He also shot 42 percent from the field.

Going South

Rivers looks to give the Grizzlies some depth in the guard position specifically at the two, backing up Garrett Temple. He’ll help provide the team with a veteran presence. Rivers is capable of putting up big numbers in the right circumstance. He showed us that last year scoring 30 points in three games one of which he scored 38 which was a career high. He can also have a big presence on the defensive end. Rivers has tallied four steals seven times in his career which is a personal high. This happened most recently a couple weeks ago against the New Orleans Pelicans.
