The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to re-sign restricted free agent swingman Andre Roberson to a contract worth $30 million over three years. The contract cannot officially be signed until the end of the NBA’s moratorium period on July 6th.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN broke the news Wednesday night:

Andre Roberson Agrees to Three-Year Contract With Oklahoma City Thunder

Roberson’s new contract will take him through the end of the 2019-20 season.

Roberson averaged a meager 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on 46 percent shooting from the field last season. However, besides his shooting percentages, Roberson’s stats have gotten better each year he has been in the league. But the four-year swingman from Colorado is not known for his offense; rather, he is known for his shutdown defense. Roberson made the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in the 2016-17 campaign, his first accolade since joining the league.

At only 25 years old, Roberson has yet to reach his peak and is already one of the league’s best defenders. However, his offensive game is a major weakness. Roberson shot just 25 percent from beyond the arc last year, his worst mark since his rookie season. He also made just 42.3 percent of his free throws, a career-low mark, and an abysmal one for a perimeter player (or any player, for that matter). Roberson will look to improve his shot this off-season for the Thunder in hopes of becoming a two-way threat.

The upcoming season will mark Roberson’s fifth year in the league, with the first four coming in Oklahoma City. The Thunder selected Roberson with the 26th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft.
