Report: Otto Porter Agrees to Contract With Brooklyn Nets

Restricted free agent small forward Otto Porter agrees to a contract with the Brooklyn Nets, which will pay him $106 million over four years.

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to sign restricted free agent small forward Otto Porter to a contract worth $106 million over four years. The contract cannot officially be signed until the end of the NBA’s moratorium period on July 6th.

Shams Charania of The Vertical broke the news on Tuesday night:

Otto Porter Agrees to Four-Year Contract With Brooklyn Nets

Porter’s contract will take him through the end of the 2020-21 season. Since he is a restricted free agent, Porter’s incumbent team, the Washington Wizards, will have until Saturday at 11:59 p.m. to match the contract. If they choose not to do so, Porter will officially become a member of the Nets.

Porter averaged 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game last season for the Wizards. He shot a career-high 51.6 percent from the field and a scorching 43.4 percent from three-point range in his contract year. He solidified himself as a starter alongside Washington’s star-studded backcourt. Porter also played in a career-high 80 regular season games, making the 2016-17 season his third straight with at least 74 games played.

Looking forward, Porter will provide stability as solid three-and-D role player for Brooklyn. There are flashes of brilliance on both ends of the floor, with his hot shooting on offense and terrific length defensively. The Nets will need Porter to continue his excellent production in order to contend for a playoff spot next season.

Porter is going into his fifth season in the league, during which he’ll be 24 years old. Until this point, he’s played his entire career in Washington. The Wizards selected him third overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.
