Williams Brazilian Grand Prix Review: Pit-Lane Blunders and a Podium

It was a rather unusual Brazilian Grand Prix for the Williams Racing team, with three pit-lane blunders occurring during the race between the two drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Despite this, the team came away with more points than Ferrari and Massa picked up another emotional piece of silverware.

Williams Brazilian Grand Prix Review

No. 19 Felipe Massa (BRA)

Grid: P3

Race: P3

Massa looked massively quick all weekend. It looked as if it was he, and not Lewis Hamilton as to who Nico Rosberg’s biggest challenger for pole would be. It didn’t turn out that way as the Brazilian struggled with traffic in Q3, but still beat his team mate. The race didn’t start brilliantly for Massa, as he was given a drive-through penalty early on for speeding. He served his penalty but his pit-lane woes were not over as he drove into McLaren’s pit box as oppose to the Williams one later on, costing more time. Despite this, he managed to salvage a third place finish, a popular result with the home fans.

No. 77 Valtteri Bottas (FIN)

Grid: P4

Race: P10

Bottas was one of a handful of drivers who have had an edge over their team mates across the season but seemed to be a bit anonymous over this weekend. He was 0.058 seconds behind his team mate in qualifying despite this and could well have taken third place from his team mate if it was not for his seatbelts coming loose, resulting in a very long pit stop. Following this, Bottas struggled to keep his tyres from degrading too much but salvaged a point as others failed to run their strategy properly.
