The latest rumours in the F1 paddock are that Jenson Button will be replaced by Fernando Alonso for 2015 at McLaren. We all knew that Alonso was set to join McLaren for a while, but it is now beginning to look more and more likely that Button is leaving. With tweets like these sent by the British driver, it is clear that he now needs to look elsewhere for a drive.
Back to this weekend, McLaren have had mixed performances in the rain this year. Poor tyre strategies at Hungary cost both drivers dear whilst Button drove one of the races of his career at the Japanese Grand Prix to hold off both Williams cars. With Brazil set to be very wet, this could be a time for Button to show his wet-weather skill once again.
McLaren Brazilian Grand Prix Preview
No. 20 Kevin Magnussen (DEN) – 10th
Form: 10/10/14/5/8
Magnussen has started picking up some really solid results lately. Especially whilst Force India have picked up just one point in the last two races, this run of form has certainly done the young Dane good. Perhaps he already knows that he is safe and the lack of pressure has helped to bring out some stronger results from the rookie?
No. 22 Jenson Button (GBR) – 7th
Form: 8/R/5/4/12
2013: Grid: P14, Race: P4
One of three drivers on the grid who can say that their most recent win has come at Interlagos, Button won that dramatic race in 2012. Another driver with some decent form to his name, Button must now be looking to the skies to see if it will be possible for him to replicate that dramatic win two years ago. Whilst it is unlikely, even in the rain, it should not be ruled out.
