This week’s pre-player presentation for our weekly “Tune-up Tuesdays” has no major spiel or words of wisdom. The smog of victory is still hanging in the air and I plan to bask in the moment from last weeks key pickups!
Here are your warriors for this week’s waiver wire!
Tune-up Tuesdays: Bask in Victory in Week 6
Byes this week: Philadelphia Eagles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kyle Orton, BUF QB- Deliver me from evil. I just recommended “Traveling Man” Kyle Orton as a possible pickup in your league. Ever since Head Coach Doug Marrone hurled the ten-year floater into the mix, he’s compiled 607 passing yards with a 3:2 touchdown to interception ratio. This endorsement is not by any means an every week start, but Orton does face a putrid New York Jets pass defense twice yet and can be serviceable should your starting QB toil and flounder.
Joe Flacco, BAL QB- We hardly got into the second quarter by the time Flacco racked up his fifth touchdown pass and virtually locked it up from then on out. This is clearly a side effect of a sieve-like secondary that the Buccaneers have been doling out for the first quarter of the season, but Flacco was able to take notice and capitalize. His next four games are against some pretty fluffy pass defenses, and he has no problem throwing for 300+ yards and a few touchdowns.
Brandon LaFell, NE WR- It’s difficult to get a read on what Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick has cooking on the stove for each week, but it is clear that Brandon LaFell is capable of delivering that plan. On his lowly six targets, he reeled in four for 97 yards and two touchdowns and stole the eye of Fantasy teams that are deficient in wideouts. New England faces an awful Jets secondary for what’s sure to be a Thursday Night trouncing, and I get the inkling that LaFell could make some desperate folks feel lucky.
Jarvis Landry, MIA WR- Landry saw his highest target total as the Dolphins returned from the bye week. Out of the eight balls thrown his way, he caught six of them for 75 yards and a score. As the youngster gets up to speed, we could see his stock rise in the coming weeks.
Brandon Bolden, NE RB- There is not much to say about Bolden aside from his bland running style and recurring run-ins with the law, but in these upcoming weeks, he’ll be able to prove his worth with Stevan Ridly looking at a potential season-ending ACL tear. The diagnosis hasn’t come yet, but we all know that Vereen isn’t built to carry the ball 15-20 times a game. It will either have to be Bolden or James White that has to pick up the slack.
Antone Smith, ATL RB- I want to know where Antone Smith has been all my life. Apparently he’s been a in the NFL for five years and this is the first year that has mattered for him. In six games he has five touchdowns and all of them have been from at least 38 yards or more. His two running touchdowns came from 38 and 48 yards, while his three receiving touchdowns came from 41, 54, and 74 yards. If you aren’t astounded by those numbers then you need a heart transplant, because the stats flat out floor me.
Jace Amaro, NYJ TE- While it isn’t impressive that it took Rookie Jace Amaro ten catches to pile up 68 yards and a touchdown this week, it is impressive that he has an 82% target-to-reception ratio. In his short six weeks in the NFL, Amaro is proving that he is reliable with great grip on the ball. The Jets are deploying him mostly as a receiver as he is on little to no blocking assignments.
Clay Harbor, JAC TE- I mentioned Harbor a couple weeks ago as an un-pretty pickup, but worth a shot. Did anyone take a chance on him? Since Marcedes Lewis has been riding the short-term IR, Bortles has been brewing chemistry with Harbor and has two solid startable games out of the deal. This is a romance worth monitoring.
