It has been a pretty crazy week for Red Bull Racing. First of all, a 17-year-old was in one of their cars in FP1 at Suzuka, and then Sebastian Vettel’s announcement that he will be leaving the team in which he won four world titles with which was followed very swiftly by the news that he will be replaced by youngster Daniil Kvyat. They were able to put all of this (as well as Jules Bianchi’s horrendous accident) aside however as they delivered yet another podium, this time Vettel’s second in a row, and he will be looking to add a third at the inaugural Russian Formula One Grand Prix.
This is the sort of track that Vettel thrives on. He has delivered a lot of wins and strong results on circuits designed by Herman Tilke in the past, and there is no reason why he shouldn’t do similar here. As for Daniel Ricciardo, his race performances have dropped off a touch since his awesome win at Spa, but there is no reason why he should be counted out here either.
Red Bull Russian GP Preview
No. 1 Sebastian Vettel (GER) – 4th
Form: 7/5/6/2/3
Vettel had a very strong race at Suzuka in the rain, especially early on. His season appears to have finally got going and with that result he has finally overtaken his arch nemesis Fernando Alonso (the mean he is set to replace) in the championship table. Despite this, the result means that he is no longer mathematically able to win the championship, whilst his team mate has a small chance still. He will be looking to end his career with Red Bull on a high, and I am sure that he would love to win before the end of the season, though that looks unlikely.
No. 3 Daniel Ricciardo (AUS) – 3rd
Form: 1/1/5/3/4
Ricciardo impressed again at Suzuka with his ability to overtake, and is still pushing his team to allow team orders to assist him in his campaign for the World Championship. Whilst it is still incredibly unlikely, should Mercedes hit issues, he must be there to pounce, and not trundling behind the Ferrari and Williams drivers. It will be interesting to see how he goes here, as he has seemed to drop off a touch in the last couple of races.
