Report: Cavaliers and Timberwolves have “handshake agreement” on Kevin Love trade

Well, it looks like the Kevin Love trade saga is finally going to come to an end. According to reports, it is almost certain that Kevin Love will be a Cleveland Cavalier before the month of August ends. It is said that the trade will be finalized on either August 23rd or 24th. Due to the fact that Andrew Wiggins recently signed a rookie contract with the Cavaliers, he would be not be eligible for trade for the next 30 days. This is why the trade will be finalized on the 23rd or 24th.

Don’t get me wrong, though. A handshake agreement is just a handshake. Many things could change over the next few weeks. But in this situation, it seemed the trade was destined to happen from the start. In the trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers would receive Kevin Love. The Minnesota Timberwolves would receive Thaddeus Young and the number one overall pick in this years draft, Andrew Wiggins. The Philadelphia 76ers would receive 2013 first overall pick Anthony Bennett and draft picks. It still bothers me that Minnesota didn’t accept the offer from Golden State, but that’s a whole different topic.

If this trade ends up happening, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be legitimate title contenders next season. When you have the best player in the league, one of the best power forwards (to some people, the best power forward), and one of the up and coming point guards, you’re destined to make a serious run at an NBA title. Kevin Love and LeBron James could really work well together. Love is a power forward who can grab rebounds and can expand his game to the three point line. LeBron James is the best player in the league, so he pretty much does everything well. With Kevin Love being able to stretch the floor as a power forward, it would make it easier for LeBron to do what he does best, attack the basket. It’ll be pretty exciting to see Kevin Love throw some outlet passes to LeBron James.  Add in Kyrie Irving and a new big 3 might be assembled in Cleveland.

Expect to hear numerous reports on this trade for the next few weeks. But as of now, it seems this trade is legit and done.
