NBA Tops and Flops of the Week – OKC, Paul George and More

With the Conference Finals well under way here is a look around the NBA to determine who has been great (tops) and not so great (flops) in the last seven days as the postseason rumbles on.

Tops

Oklahoma City Thunder– After two awful games on the road to start off the Western Conference final, the Thunder dominated both games at home to even the series up at 2-2. Filled with a new wave confidence and with the critical return of Serge Ibaka, Kevin Durant’s side looks to use this momentum to snatch a win on the road in order to secure a place in the NBA Finals.

Paul George– Game five was must win for the Pacers, and thanks to a great performance from their all star George, who scored 37 points on the night, with 21 coming in the fourth, Indiana are still alive in their series against the Heat, though a win on the road is now essential in game six.

Mexico and UK– Once again, two regular season NBA Global Games will take place in Mexico and United Kingdom next year:
Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves in Mexico City in November and
Milwaukee Bucks vs. New York Knicks London in January.

Flops

Tiago Splitter- The Spurs big man was fined $5k by the NBA for flopping in game four of the Western Conference final. No-one likes a flop.

Lance Stephenson- There’s nothing wrong with passion on the basketball court, but Stephenson’s recent behavior in the series against the Heat has maybe been a step too far with antics such as blowing in Lebron’s ear. When Ray Allen was asked to comment on whether or not the actions made a difference to his teammates, the Heat three point specialist made Stephenson look pathetic: “No. It’s just buffoonery. As players, we just are professional, we come out and do our jobs. He’s young. He’ll grow up.”

Lebron James- No doubt Lebron would have wanted to close out the series in game five against the Pacers, but his poor performance (only 7 points on 2/10 FG and three turnovers) was a main reason the Heat failed to close out the series. Although they are still ahead, game six at home will see the two time defending champions play under a lot of pressure, as a loss would make them have to snatch game seven on the road.
