Athleticism: C+
Range is slightly above average for a player his size at the linebacker position. Is a flexible athlete who moves very well, but is not overly sudden when changing directions. Accelerates very well and foot speed is very good in a straight line. Was not asked to drop back into coverage too often, but showed at least the aptitude to get his hands up and swat at passes.
Pass Rushing: B-
Has a very nice blend of speed and power. Can shoot gaps, push linemen back in the pocket, or run the arc. Extremely flexible to run his lower body around the linemen while still engaged with his upper body. Could be handled by more powerful linemen, and matches up better vs. more athletic tackles. Lacks a pass rush arsenal and still needs significant development.
Run Stopping: C+
Has the natural power to play as an end in a one-gapping even front, but struggles at time to make full use of it. Can hold up the corner, but lacks the ability to disengage from some of the physically dominating collegiate tackles and make plays himself. Use of hands is only decent, but plays with fairly good leverage. Has upside in this area.
Technique: B-
Heavy tackler who can deliver some pop. Has long arms to wrap securely and typically can seal the deal in the backfield. Has issues when it comes to tackling more athletic backs and QBs. Gets turned around in space and can lose his feet trying to square up for the tackle. Will dive and whiff in backside pursuit occasionally.
Intangibles: B-
Plays with a good motor and does not give away downs. Football instincts are below average, biting on play fakes too often and having trouble to see the ball. A raw athlete, who still needs refining. Is very young for a senior and has plenty of upside.
Red Flags: Raw Talent
Bottom Line: Attaochu is an intriguing athlete, who has plenty of upside but still has the ability to contribute from day one, which likely will earn him an early round grade. Possessing a strong work ethic and football character, there is little doubt that Attaochu could improve in the NFL and reach his ceiling as an exceptional run defender/pass rusher. The former Jacket should be able to fit as a stand up edge rusher, as well as a playing end with his hand in the dirt.
Comparison: O’Brien Schofield
Grade: 8.5 (2nd Round)
