Clayton Kershaw Scratched From Sunday Start

The two-time defending NL Cy Young award winner will miss his scheduled start on Sunday as the Dodgers announced that inflamation in the upper left portion of his back means Clayton Kershaw scratched from his start against the Padres.

The 26-year-old left hander pitched for the Dodgers in their season opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australid, holding Arizona to just one run in over 6 2/3 innings in a 3-1 Dodgers victory.

An MRI has been taken and reportedly shows no damage so the injury is being considered minor for now and the Dodgers hope that he will be back on the mound as soon as possible. However, after making a a seven-year, $215 million investment into Kershaw, the Dodgers are sure to be cautious with their franchise pitcher.

Kershaw is the centre piece of a lineup that has overtaken the Yankees as the highest paid team in baseball for the first time in 16 years.  The Dodgers won the NL West last season, before falling in the NLCS to the St. Louis Cardinals.  They are looking for more this season.
