Marussia versus Caterham: The Web Race

Having been asked to cover the two back marker teams my first thought was, like most in the twenty first century, where do I go for information? The internet of course. A quick web search led me easily to their online presence.

Marussia

First up Marussia. I instantly liked their black and red page full of detailed information on the MR03: a click on the car icon brings up some great specification from carbon fibre monocoque to BBS wheels and Sabelt seat belts and it’s all there for you to explore. Another click brings up team info from the drivers to the CEO. There’s a great magazine feature that looks forward to the next race and back to the previous one as well as other background stories and and a nice bio of the team that starts with the words “small is beautiful.” Maybe relevant for the team but certainly not for their team page; a bright colourful website packed full of content, well worth a visit.

Caterham

After checking out the Marussia page Caterham had a hard act to follow. First impressions like Marussia, the site is clad in team colours, but green and yellow seem to shout louder than black and red. There’s an instant hit of information with a moving screen shot of their latest news including a great little map of the Malaysian circuit (at time of writing the next race) a review of the last race and a video of Kobayashi thrashing a Caterham road car around Silverstone. In the top right hand corner there’s a nifty countdown clock to the next race, very handy. You then have the usual menus option to the left including galleries and Caterham TV, but where they really come up trumps is their download options where you can get loads of free content onto your PC or to use on twitter and Facebook or just as a background. I loved this, you can’t get too much for nothing these days. There is so much content on there home page and I would recommend a visit for the free downloads alone. If they could score championship points for their webpage they would be championship contenders. Both back marker teams have outdone themselves and if they can transfer this kind of workmanship to their race teams a move up the grid and into points scoring positions will surely follow.
