What has already been an incredibly emotional week in the hockey world, has gotten tougher once again today. We have sad news to report out of Calgary as Flames centre Matt Stajan has requested (and been granted) a leave from the team for personal reasons.
The Flames said in a release that Emmerson Stajan died on Monday following childbirth.
“It is with great sadness we inform that Katie and Matt Stajan are grieving the loss of their son, Emerson Stajan,” the statement read. “Emerson passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, following childbirth.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and Matt at this difficult time. We appreciate that everyone has and will continue to respect their privacy during this period.”
The Flames indicated that a private memorial service would be held in the coming days, and that the Stajans request privacy in this difficult time.
We at LWOS extend our warmest sympathies to the Stajan Family, and all who grieve with them in this most difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them, as most of us can not personally imagine the type of sorrow and tragedy that they are currently facing.
