Hugo Lloris: Tottenham's Super Stopper

Hugo Lloris has had a good season. Sure he may have conceded quite a number of goals, but he has saved Spurs on many occasions from conceding even more.

The amount of three or more goal losses Spurs have suffered this season is quite a large number. Two games there have been two very unfair red cards that have led to Tottenham’s self-destruction. This is sometimes down to poor professionalism, where some of the players simply aren’t inspired enough to fight anymore, which, for Hugo Lloris, must be a royal pain in the backside. In quite a number of games he has had to save Spurs, and it has become all too common.

It’s unlikely now that Spurs will reach fourth spot and thus qualification for the Champions league, which many thought would be possible at the start of the season. Changing manager and therefore changing tactics has caused The Lilywhites to drop points where they usually wouldn’t. There have been many rumours swirling around some of Tottenham’s more prestigious players, concerning their future at the club.

Will Hugo leave? It’s debatable.

He is still relatively young as a goalkeeper, if you compare him to Brad Friedel (aged 42). This means he could give it another season or two at Spurs to see if they can get into the Champions league in the future. But, maybe better wages and a chance of representing a team in the Champions league next season might be more alluring. Lloris shouldn’t be blamed. He is a fantastic goalkeeper who would be a prized asset in any side.

Sometimes, it takes a few Lloris saves to wake up Tottenham. If their Frenchman had been as dormant in the game as some of his defenders, then Tottenham would be in a rather dire situation indeed. Hugo has been vital in many games. If it was not for him, some games may have been lost rather than won.

Can Spurs afford to lose Lloris? He is a world class goalkeeper. Of course Tottenham would miss his great goalkeeping ability. But, for the big pricetag he will undoubtedly fetch, Spurs could bring in a younger keeper who in the future might be as good as him. Don’t forget, Spurs still have the trusting hands of Brad Friedel, who is probably the most experienced goalie you can have in English football. Oh, and that Brazilian keeper Gomes… is he even still there?

Let’s just hope Spurs can keep hold of Hugo Lloris as well as Lloris keeps guard of his goal. (When Spurs aren’t playing against Man City or Chelsea anyway).
