The Giants were co-hosts of the Seahawks Super Bowl 43-8 decimation of the Broncos. And they also have a new entrant into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, continuing the franchise’s long-running linage of greatness.
The legendary defensive end and immensely popular FOX analyst and TV host joins Andre Reed, Derrick Brooks, Aeneas Williams, Walter Jones, Ray Guy and Claude Humphrey.
Strahan, a second-round pick out of Texas Southern in the 1993 draft held a litany of accomplishments; one no more championed (or scrutinized) than his standing as the record holder for his 22.5 sacks set in 2001. Brett Favre’s alleged capitulation aside, Strahan wrapped up the Defensive Player of the Year. He was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade team.
It didn’t come without controversy, however, as Warren Sapp spent most of the week chiding Strahan’s candidacy for reasons not necessarily known to anyone but Sapp himself. As it often does, the inevitability tends to allow the accuser to hit the reverse and moonwalk away from it all, as Sapp spent some of yesterday doing.
One thing is for sure: Strahan’s induction speech is one that shall be a must-watch. For a military kid raised in Germany and feeling like a fish out of water in Houston, to one of the greatest ambassadors of the sport, it should be a great time not just for Giants fans, but for the league itself.
