The New Year is coming closer and closer, and there have been some amazing moments, such as Auburn’s upset over Alabama, Ray Allen’s Game 6 three-pointer, and even the Ravens winning the Super Bowl with Ray Lewis’ tenure coming to a close. However, there have been a lot of terrible moments and durations, so I thought I’d make a list of sports New Year’s Resolutions that players and teams should try and fulfill.
New York Basketball: New York’s resolution should be to actually good at basketball. With the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets having a combined record of 19-41 as we speak, it’s tough to be a New York basketball fan this year (unless you’re a Cavs fan before that). Questions of Jason Kidd’s antics stalling games and DUIng, as well as Mike Woodson’s reliability as a coach come to mind. People are also questioning if this is Melo’s last year in New York, with him testing the free agent market next year. So New York, do better at basketball next year.
Cleveland Sports: As a Cleveland sports fan, I don’t expect championships. Heck, I don’t even expect winning seasons. But I would like a decent season and hopefully a championship every once in a while. It’s getting old being disappointed after every single game the Browns or Cavs have played this year (granted, the Indians made the playoffs this year). Life goes on after sports, but sports are also a big part of my life, and I would enjoy some success in that as well as the whole city of Cleveland too next year.
Derrick Rose: After only playing 10 games in the past 2 seasons due to multiple knee injuries, we all feel the pain that D-Rose has taken. As an NBA fan, I would love to see him come back healthy and succeed, even if he isn’t as explosive. His game should be focused on jump shooting and assists now. Paul Pierce is very slow, but he has a quick first step and knows weaknesses of each defender, helpful for his aging body. So D-Rose, get better next year!
ESPN: Hey guys, if you didn’t know, hockey is a sport. I would like to see more coverage of that instead of all this coverage of LeBron’s family and HeatSPN. Hockey is growing in America, and just because you don’t have a license to show games, doesn’t mean you can’t cover it. Also, have more than one analyst on Sportscenter every once in a while, that’d be great. So ESPN, cover more NHL!
Miami Heat “fans”: My last New Year’s Resolution is to Miami Heat fans, and “fans.” The small amount of true fans South Beach has barely show up to regular season games and leave all games early (remember game 6.. classic). As well as this, there are so many “fans” that actually aren’t fans but bandwagoners that have awful teams and have rooted for them since the Heat “drafted” LeBron in 2010. So Miami fans, show up to games, you won’t be seeing this next few years, guaranteeing LeBron leaves due to the instability of the Heat (Bosh won’t be invested in, injured Wade getting older). And Miami Heat “fans”, stick to watching your own teams and enjoy it when they win, you’re making the Heat organization look like a joke.
And to all my followers and sports lovers out there, have a wonderful new year celebration and a great 2014 year!
