Despite residing in the same conference, the defending-champion Chiefs and 14-2 Ravens are the top-two Super Bowl conteders at +600 and +650, respectively. The shortest NFC teams are last season’s conference champion, San Francisco, and the Tom Brady-led Buccaneers, back at +900. Surprisingly, the Brady-less Patriots are the third-favorite in the AFC at +1333, even though their defense has been decimated by players opting out of the season. In terms of betting on the go this NFL season, it’s become increasingly popular as the technology adapts. There are a handful of teams that truly are Super Bowl contenders this season, but five sets themselves apart from the rest of the pack.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off of a 7-9 season where they finished third in the NFC South. They did not grab a whole lot of pieces during the offseason to really catapult their team to the next level. However, the players they were able to add will be huge pieces for their chances of making a run. Signing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady would have been enough to get them into fringes the conversation. They topped that by adding two more offensive threats in Rob Gronkowski and LeSean McCoy. That trio could be the lightning bolt that Tampa Bay needed to really make a run at the team’s first Super Bowl appearance since winning it all in their only appearance in 2002.
New Orleans Saints
Staying in the same division, the New Orleans Saints had a much better 2019 season. The team finished 13-3, winning their division before being upset by the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card game. The Saints did not go as extreme on the rebuild this offseason, but anytime you have Drew Brees under center, you have a chance. However, they definitely did bring in some solid pieces to help climb to the next level. The biggest names were safety Malcolm Jenkins and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Those two on their own are some major pick-ups for the Saints. They should be able to bolster the team on both sides of the ball to help get New Orleans back to the Super Bowl for just the second time and the first time since winning in 2009.
San Francisco 49ers
Anytime you make the Super Bowl, you are going to be among the favorites to go back the next season. The 49ers were not able to pull off the win last season in the final game, but they finished 13-3 in the regular season, winning home-field advantage along the way. San Francisco did not do as much to reload as some other teams did. In fact, they lost a pretty significant piece in Emmanuel Sanders. Even with losing the wide receiver, the 49ers remain the team to beat in the NFC and should be playing in the conference championship game once again this season.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens had a good 2019 regular season. Baltimore went 14-2 and won their division along with home-field throughout the playoffs. That home field advantage did not last long, as the Ravens were upset by Derrick Henry and the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round. This offseason, Baltimore were able to secure the services of defensive end Calais Campbell and rookie running back JK Dobbins. Reigning MVP, Lamar Jackson, is also returning to help lead this team back to where they left off in the regular season last year: atop the AFC.
Kansas City Chiefs
Any season that you win the Super Bowl is a good one. When you can arguably improve your roster in the following offseason, you are going to be considered one of the Super Bowl contenders to win it all again. That is exactly what the Chiefs have done. Following a 12-4 season that was capped off with a Super Bowl win, the Chiefs went out and got a couple of pieces to help improve their team even more. The highlights of those signings include defensive end Taco Charlton and guard Kelechi Osemele. They also locked their quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, into a long-term contract to keep him in Kansas City. The team did lose some players this offseason. Cornerback Kendall Fuller and running back LeSean McCoy went their own way this offseason. However, the Chiefs look ready to make a run this season and try to retain their spot on top of the league.
