Manchester United are committed to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because there is no one else to take his job. The Red Devils manager has had a torrid time this season achieving just three wins in all competitions. Manchester United were defeated on Sunday by Newcastle United thanks to a Matthew Longstaff goal. It came as Newcastle United broke on a counter-attack and Manchester United’s record summer transfer signing Harry Maguire retreated to give Longstaff a free shot at goal. There is no one to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Solskjaer’s position as Manchester United is safe for now as the club has had three opportunities to sack the manager already. The offseason, September international break, and October international break were all perfect opportunities to sack the Norwegian.
Chief Executive Ed Woodward has kept Solskjaer on after sacking Jose Mourinho for his poor start to last season. Unlike the Portuguese manager, Solskjaer is a company man and does what he is told without question. His ability to shut up and not question his boss has kept him in the job to this point. Yet, Manchester United are a sinking ship and there are issues that a replacement manager may not fix.
A Lack of Interest

Part of the issue with sacking Solskjaer is the club’s ability, or inability, to attract a suitable replacement. Rumors are rife that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could be next in line at Old Trafford. The Argentine is suffering his own crisis at Tottenham Hotspur this season and could be let go if it doesn’t get better. Meanwhile, former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is still available and could be ushered into the Red Devils hot seat.
No matter which manager takes over, the issues at the club won’t end just from their arrival. Manchester United have personnel issues along with front-office problems that are spurring poor player purchases.
Even if Solskjaer is dismissed before Christmas, things will most likely get worse before they get better at Old Trafford.
