It was just announced by the Indoor Football League a little under three weeks ago that Tuscon, Arizona would be receiving its own franchise in the league at the beginning of the 2019 season.
The team, owned by Arizona Rattlers coach Kevin Guy, hasn’t figured out what they will be called yet, but actually has a coach selected to take over the reins.
Tuscon IFL Franchise to hire Marcus Coleman
Last Word On Sports has learned that Tuscon will hire Marcus Coleman – the defensive coordinator from 2018’s IFL champion Iowa Barnstormers – as head coach of the team.
Our site confirmed a month ago that the assistants to Dixie Wooten – the head coach of the Barnstormers – would be leaving the franchise following the 2018 campaign.
Coleman helped lead the Barnstormers to a 11-3 regular season record before upending the Sioux Falls Storm at the end of a playoff route, taking the team’s first title in franchise history.
While in Iowa for two seasons, Coleman was a part of teams that finished with a combined 26-7 record over his time with Wooten.
Now, Coleman will take over an expansion team tasked with the best competition that the league has seen in years.
The Quad City Steamwheelers recently joined the IFL coming over from Champions Indoor Football (CIF) in a move that was announced last week.
Amongst the other teams in what is currently an eight-team league, Coleman will set up shop in the same state as one of the most winningest coaches in indoor football history in Guy – who again is the Rattlers coach and also Tuscon owner.
It is unknown how Guy will handle being an owner of a team and a coach of a different one in the same league.
The IFL’s 2019 season will kick off in February and LWOS will stay updated throughout the off-season.
