CFL Week 6 Power Rankings – Roughriders Rising

After another wild week on and off the field in the CFL, here are your Week 6 power rankings.

1. Calgary Stampeders

Last week:1

The Stampeders steamrolled the Alouettes on Saturday (as expected) to remain the only undefeated team in the CFL. Bo Levi Mitchell didn’t seem to show any lingering signs of the injury he suffered in Week 5 as he threw for 292 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Calgary gets a bit tougher matchup next week travelling to Regina to face the rising Roughriders.

2. Edmonton Eskimos

Last week: 2

The Edmonton Eskimos sat out this week but remain second in the power rankings.  This week they will prepare to face a Montreal Alouettes team that could be quarterbacked by Johnny Manziel at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

3. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Last week: 4

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers handily beat the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field. This was a game that saw the league’s current MOP – Andrew Harris – produce 2 touchdowns and 177 yards of total offence. Winnipeg will host the Argos at home Friday, July 27th in what will likely be a game that will bring the Bombers back over .500.

4. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Last week: 6

If there was any doubt about the Saskatchewan Roughriders after beating Hamilton at home, that doubt is surely gone. The Roughriders marched into Hamilton and beat the Tiger-Cats with ease. The defence held Masoli and the Ti-Cats to just 258 yards of total offence. The duo of Brandon Bridge and David Watford went another week turnover-free as well. Things are beginning to look up for the Riders despite being without Zach Collaros. The Riders face a tall task this weekend as they host the undefeated Calgary Stampeders.

5. Ottawa Redblacks

Last week: 5

It took them a while but the Ottawa Redblacks finally broke into the end zone after over two full games without a touchdown. In a tight win over the BC Lions it looked as though Trevor Harris had finally started to gain control of his offence again. After being pulled early in Calgary, Harris returned to throw for 363 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. The win put the Redblacks on top of the not so impressive East Division

6. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Last week: 3

Another disappointing weekend for the Tiger-Cats and Jeremiah Masoli. Not only did he fail to break the CFL record for most consecutive games with 300+ yards, but he and his team lost to the Riders again, this time at home. The Ti-Cats will try to end their two-game losing streak this weekend against the Redblacks at Tim Hortons Field.

7. BC Lions

Last week: 7

After an uplifting comeback, the BC Lions were quickly brought back down to earth after a last-minute loss in the nation’s capital. It wasn’t all negative for B.C however. Travis Lulay threw for 325 yards and a pair of touchdowns without turning the ball over. Brandon Rutley also rushed for 91 yards averaging 5.4 YPC. The Lions will get a week off before travelling to McMahon Stadium to face Bo Levi and the Stampeders.

8. Toronto Argonauts

Last week: 8

The Argonauts continued to struggle at home against the Blue Bombers producing just 173 yards of total offence. Andrew Harris produced more yards himself than the entire Toronto offence combined. The only touchdowns the Argos managed to score came from two fumble recoveries returned for touchdowns. James Wilder Jr. only carried the ball three times for a total of -2 yards. Something needs to change in a hurry for this Argonauts team if they want to make a playoff push down the stretch.

9. Montreal Alouettes

Last week: 9

Another loss in the books for the Montreal Alouettes this time, it was at the hands of the Calgary Stampeders. The only positive to take away from this game? Montreal covered the spread. Next Thursday there will be some new faces on this Alouettes offence as they host Mike Reilly and the Edmonton Eskimos.
