Just about one year ago at this time, we were getting ready for Raw 1000 to happen. We saw a lot on that show, it was a Monday night RAW like no another. So what has changed in the WWE since?
Well if you ask me, a lot is different in the WWE now then it was in 2012. Remember, it was the RAW 1000 episode that kick-started the program’s permanent three-hour format, which had been previously reserved only for special episodes. First off, we saw a lot of returns. DX kicked off the show and had a great segment with the crowd – after which they all beat up Damien Sandow. Now, look at Sandow and how far he’s come in the last year, instead of being fodder for the DX return and a bit of a joke, he won the Money In The Bank ladder match for a chance at the World Heavyweight Championship.
Jim Ross came out to call the opening match of the night, which was good to see and got things started well. All the WWE legends attacked and hit Heath Slater with everything they had, and even the Lovey Lita made an appearance. Backstage, DX interrupted a yoga session between Trish Stratus and Triple H, which was very funny. AJ Lee and Daniel Bryan had their wedding that everyone had been waiting to see. AJ left Bryan, and Vince Mcmahon made AJ Lee the new RAW GM right then and there.
Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman went at it on the mic, which was very entertaining. Triple H used the mic to call out the beast, Brock Lesnar, and they went at it. The Undertaker made his first appearance since WrestleMania XXVIII to team with his brother, Kane – as the Brothers of Destruction were back for one night only. And then CM Punk put his WWE Championship on the line vs John Cena. The Rock made a run-in at the end of the match, and CM Punk hit him with the GTS. For the days and months after that, Punk was made a heel by WWE, but he was still loved regardless.
So now in July 2013, one year later, we have new talents like Big E Langston, The Shield, The Wyatt Family, Curtis Axel and RVD is back on RAW – Mr. Monday Night returned less then a week ago. The current champions are The Shield who hold multiple titles, John Cena is WWE Champion, Alberto Del Rio is the World Heavyweight Champion and AJ Lee is the Divas Champion. Zeb Colter, Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro are the Real Americans. They are very entertaining and are great talents who should be getting a huge push in my opinion. Mark Henry has been on fire along with Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk is feuding with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar. And back to the beginning, the three hour RAW is good; it makes WWE put on much longer and better matches.
A lot has changed over this last year since RAW 1000, most of which is for the better I think. I anticipate a fantastic summer of WWE action, which promises to be very entertaining for its fans.
