Update New England Patriots Trade Bryan Stork to Redskins

In a surprising move the New England Patriots released former starting center Bryan Stork after two seasons with the team, citing behavioral issues.

Update: At the last minute the Patriots were able to find a trade partner, sending Bryan Stork to the Washington Redskins.

Our original story follows.

Early Wednesday morning the New England Patriots announced they were parting ways with former starting lineman Bryan Stork. Over the past two seasons, the third year lineman started 17 games at center. Stork’s release comes after the Patriots tried to find a low level trade partner throughout the off-season.

New England Patriots Release Bryan Stork

Stork, 25, spent his only two NFL seasons with the Patriots. He was drafted out of Florida State in the fourth-round in 2014. Stork’s release has come as a surprise as reports warned that he was in danger of losing the starting spot to undrafted center David Andrews. Stork has also made headlines this preseason for being ejected from a joint practice with Chicago Bears, after an altercation with Bears linebacker Sam Acho. It was said that during an 11-on-11 team period, Stork first heabutted Bears linebacker John Timu before shoving Acho. Stork was also pulled during the first half of Patriots preseason matchup with the New Orleans Saints after performing poorly.

In addition, Stork’s emotional maturity and physical durability has come into question on multiple ocassions. Stork headbutted Vance Walker during the AFC Title game vs the Denver Broncos last season and was also thrown out of minicamp in June for fighting with defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton. Also on July 30, Stork sustained his fourth concussion in the past four years. Stork and Andrews had been alternating first team reps until the injury. In each of his three training camps with the Patriots, Stork has missed time for a concussion or neck injury.

The release of Stork, leaves the Patriots with only Andrews at center. Andrews was signed by the Patriots last off-season after going undrafted out of Georgia. With Andrews being the only active center for the Patriots, the team could move another lineman in to fill the backup role.
