Ottawa Redblacks Win with All-round Performance

In another hard-fought performance, Trevor Harris took revenge on his former team, with the Ottawa Redblacks defeating the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field by a score of 30-20. The Redblacks win was an all-round team performance.

Harris Takes Revenge

Harris continues to impress in his statistics. He completed 28 of 31 passes for 392 yards. Despite no passing touchdowns, it does not take away from the great night from him and his teammates, including Greg Ellingson’s nine receptions for 218 yards, a monstrous performance. Aside from that now, here are some takeaways from the Ottawa Redblacks performance in game number four.

Strong Depth on Defence

Moton Hopkins, Jerrell Gavins, and Forrest Hightower were all out with injuries. However, Ottawa’s defence stood strong all around and kept Toronto limited to 20 points through the game.

Imoan Claibourne and Tristan Jackson stepped up on the depth chart in place of Gavins and Hightower and had a positive impact throughout the game, with both got a few defensive tackles. Ottawa continues to find and produce quality defensive players on the team, a big key to their success.

Special Teams Trending Upwards

It goes without saying that in the first two Ottawa Redblacks seasons, the special teams were terrible. After four games of the 2016 season, special teams are starting to trend upwards.

In this game, kick returns against Ottawa averaged about 21 yards per carry and punt returns averaged about 4.5 yards against Ottawa. There were some big returns against Ottawa in the previous two seasons, but preventing them this season is a sign of improvement.

In addition to the special teams, the kicker Chris Milo made three of four field goals and was money on kicking up extra points. Milo may have made some mistakes along the way, but he is doing his job acceptably.

Special teams were one of Ottawa’s biggest problems last season. If they continue to show improvement, it could be one of the missing pieces to the puzzle to complete the team.
