The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Victor Rask to a contract extension. The new deal is for six-years, and $24 million. It carries an AAV/Cap hit of $4 million per season. The deal runs through the 2020-21 season. The 23-year-old forward was a restricted free agent.

Carolina Hurricanes sign Victor Rask to Contract Extension
Last season, Rask put up 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points in 81 games. The numbers represented career highs across the board for the Swedish centre. The 48 points also put Rask second in team scoring on the Hurricanes. In three NHL seasons, Rask has scored 32 goals and 49 assists for 81 points in 160 career games.
“Victor has gotten better every season that he’s been a part of our organization,” general manager Ron Francis said via the team’s official website. “He is a big part of this team’s present and future, and we are thrilled to sign him to a longer-term deal.”
The Hurricanes selected Rask in the second round, 42nd overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Rask played his junior hockey for the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen. He also spent a season with the Hurricane’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers.
Rask represented Sweden at the 2012 and 2013 World Junior Championships. He took home a gold medal in 2012, and a silver in 2013.
The Hurricanes just missed out on the playoffs in 2015-16. They are hoping that the continued growth of players like Rask, along with the additions of Teuvo Teravainen, Bryan Bickell, Lee Stempniak and Viktor Stalberg will help the team get back into the playoffs this season.
