Nate Robinson Gets Tryout With Seattle Seahawks

Nate Robinson, a ten year veteran of the NBA who played football in high school and college, will get a tryout with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks.

Former NBA point guard Nate Robinson had a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday. The three-time NBA Slam Dunk champion played ten seasons in the NBA. Robinson accumulated over 6,800 points and 1,826 assists for eight different teams since being drafted by the Phoenix Suns 21st overall in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Robinson played three years of high school football at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. He was originally enrolled at the University of Washington on a football scholarship. He played in all 13 games, starting six at cornerback as a freshman.  Ultimately, Robinson decided to focus all his concentration on basketball before his sophomore season.

What he lacks in size, Robinson makes up for with grit and determination. This has been evident throughout his NBA career. He has made no secret about his desire to play football again, and there have been plenty of doubters out there who think it would be impossible for the 5’9” Robinson to make his mark in the NFL. Undoubtedly, he would need to put on a few more pounds of muscle to withstand the punishment of a football season. The Seahawks aren’t necessarily lacking in the defensive back department, either. Boasting one of the best defenses in the NFL over the past few seasons, the addition of Robinson would surely be one of publicity and added depth at the most.

In the end, Robinson got the tryout he wanted. Many professional athletes played multiple sports in high school and college. In some cases, there have been athletes to play multiple sports professionally (Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, etc.). Pete Carroll is no slouch when it comes to publicity, either. So if Robinson does get an invitation to Seattle’s training camp, expect the media to be abuzz.

For now, all Robinson can do is wait for the call.
