The Utah Jazz have announced that guard Alec Burks underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and ankle to clear out debris in his joints. Burks is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. Burks had the surgeries done on Wednesday, and the Jazz believe Burks will be healed by the fall.
Burks was drafted by the Jazz in 2011 out of the University of Colorado, selected twelfth overall.
Last season Burks averaged 13.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Burks’ primary role with the Jazz is as the team’s sixth man. Burks did miss 50 games last season with a broken left fibula and 55 the season before after having shoulder surgery. Injuries are clearly an issue for Burks, as this latest procedure proves. Burks can do damage when healthy, but in recent seasons Jazz fans just haven’t seen enough of him to tell whether or not he’s a reliable option going forward.
The Utah Jazz finished third in the Northwest Division in the Western Conference with a 40-42 record. The Jazz finished 15 games back of division leaders Oklahoma City Thunder. The Jazz showed significant progress this season, as the teams young roster proved they are definitely one of the teams to watch going forward. With players like Gordon Hayward, Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, the team already has it’s core set for years to come.
The Jazz have a promising future, the team just re-signed their head coach Quin Snyder to a new long-term deal and having put together one of the better young rosters in the association, the future is looking very bright in Utah. Alec Burks is talented and holds plenty of potential, but nobody really knows if his future lies in Utah.
Jazz fans are expecting a lot from Burks in the future, but after three surgeries in three seasons Jazz fans may be beginning to worry about their talented scorer.
