The Iowa Barnstormers will return to Wells Fargo Arena when they take on the 1-8 Colorado Crush at 7:00pm.
Along with the game and separate promotions, the Barnstormers will be welcoming former Iowa State players as a part of Iowa State night.
The list of players includes former Cyclone player, and former Barnstormer player and coach, Brent Curvey; and also the running back that clinched ISU’s 2011 upset of #2 OSU, Jeff Woody.
Former Cyclone Ter’Ran Benton will also be playing in the game and all three will be signing autographs after the game.
Brion Carnes Now in Charge, Iowa faces Colorado
On a contradicting note, former Northern Iowa QB Brion Carnes will be starting, as he has taken over the offense during each of the past two weeks.
“I’m starting get my confidence back,” Carnes said. “I just take what the defense give and trust my teammates to make plays.”
Barnstormers fans should remember what happened the last time a UNI Panther started at the quarterback position for Iowa: he went on to win a Super Bowl.
“It’s great just trying to follow Kurt Warner’s footsteps,” Carnes said. “I look up to his story and what he overcome to get where he is today. [He is] one of my favorite QB’s to ever play the game.”
Carnes has had tremendous games the past two weeks ever since taking over, meanwhile so has DL Reshard Simmons, who earned player of the week last week.
Simmons had eight tackles and a sack to help the Barnstormers to break their four-game losing streak.
So after a 3-1 start, Iowa fell to 3-5, and it looked as though the playoffs were going to be a long shot. However, thanks to parity, Iowa is finding their way their way back into the hunt.
If Wichita Falls – who is not favored, loses to Sioux Falls this Friday, and the Barnstormers find a W against Colorado, they will be just a half game out of the playoffs.
“[Against Colorado, we’ve] just got to play our game,” Carnes said. “Once we get a look at what they like to do. We’ve just got to take whatever they give us and make sure we make a positive play.”
