Welcome back to Quick Slant, the column that sorts through hundreds of headlines and brings you only the best, most interesting and downright stupid the NFL has to offer. The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines; some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid. It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day. I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels! So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:
The Steelers finally made the decision to keep Emmanuel Sanders as they matched the Patriots’ offer sheet of 1-year, $2.5mill. The signing is really welcomed in #SteelerNation, as losing another piece to their convoluted puzzle would be stupid……Speaking of #SteerlerNation, the Bengals are trying to P#%& off the lot of them by signing cast-off James Harrison. While many were surprised by the team’s move to rid themselves of #92, many more are going to completely lose it if James heads to one of their divisional rivals from Ohio. Should be fun……Okay, promise, last bit o’ Steelers news – Former O-lineman Chukky Okobi plead guilty to harassment in an incident stemming from an Alhegany County bar. Apparently he was playing “Killing me Softly” a little too much on the jukebox……The circus is officially in town as Tim Tebow has arrived in New York for the team’s workouts. Oh, to be a Jets fan……And staying with the green and white, has no one told Mark Sanchez that he, well, sucks? Judging by the way he conducted himself in a recent interview one wouldn’t think so. He strutted his stuff (verbally) like a cock in a henhouse. He did note how he has been working with Jeff Garcia lately, until one reporter reminded him that so was JaMarcus Russell. Interview over……Antoine Winfield joins thousands others as recent signees in Seattle. The ‘hawks add a veteran presence because, well, umm, Hell, I don’t know……The Packers’ AJ Hawk (cool football name, by the way) believes Aaron Rogers is worth every penny, no matter how much Green Bay pays for him – even a billion dollars. I’ll do him one better – he’s worth a kajillion zillion dollars. Take that, AJ!……Oh, and expect Matt Ryan to enter the Kajillion Zillion Club, though when that happens is anyone’s guess. It appears the club is expanding with great rapidity!
Before I sign off, our sincerest condolences go out to the families whose lives were thrown into a tailspin at the Marathon yesterday. No amount of justice done to the offenders will make it okay.
That does it for today. Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
