Tamba Hali To Re-Sign with Chiefs for 3 Years
Hali played in 15 games last season and battled with some minor injuries during the season. He was very productive on the field, recording 6.5 sacks and 48 tackles. He was a solid piece on a very good defense and the team certainly missed the presence of him and Justin Houston during some games.
Despite his age, Hali is still able to be very productive, as the Chiefs drafted Dee Ford in the 2014 draft to replace him, but Hali kept putting up solid numbers. During the past ten seasons he has been one of the bright spots for the Kansas City Chiefs, even on a Chiefs team that was struggling in the late 2000ss to early 2010s. In his ten seasons with the Chiefs, he was named to six Pro Bowls from 2010-2015, and he was named second-team All-Pro in 2011 and 2013. Hali was the AFC sack leader in 2010 and has amassed 553 total tackles, 86 sacks, 32 forced fumbles, two interceptions and two defensive touchdowns in his career so far.
At one point in time during Hali’s career, he was considered an elite pass rusher, but he is coming off an injury-plagued season and is only getting older. He turns 33 in November and his health is the biggest question mark. However, he has played in at least 15 games every season during his 10-year career.
Hali was born in Liberia and moved to the United States at the age of ten. He went to Teaneck High School in New Jersey. After becoming an All-American Defensive End and four-star recruit, he committed to Penn State University. After his senior year at Penn State he was a unanimous All-American and Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year along with a first-team Big Ten Selection. After recording 11 sacks (led the Big 10) and 17 tackles for loss during his final collegiate season, Hali was selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
