Las Vegas Sevens Day two started off as a dull affair but as Last Word On Sports predicted yesterday one big scalp was going to fall on Day Two and the Kenyans delivered that when they walloped the mighty Kiwis in their final pool game 22-0.
Japan continued with their form from yesterday as they defeated a Scottish side boosting with confidence after their win over England on Day One cruising to a 26-12 victory which earned them a quarter final spot the English however are having one of their worst tournaments in recent history not being able to register a victory after two days which has left Simon Amor’s men with a lot of soul searching before the final day.
Las Vegas Sevens: Day TWO Action
Day Two Final Pool Game RESULTS:
Pool A: Portugal 0-31 Russia, New Zealand 0-22 Kenya.
The Russians always find their rhythm on Day two and today they found it against the Portuguese and the Vladamir Ostronshko led side whipped the hapless Portugal side 31-0 as the Kenyans wrapped up their final pool game in style.
Even with likes of Dj Forbes, Tim Mikkelson, Kurt Baker and Gilles Kaka the Kenyans were never intimidated as they did every thing right by the book to shout the Kiwi boys out who were coming off a back of a back to back victory in the Oceania Leg.
Pool B: Australia 36-7 England, Scotland 19-26 Japan.
The inclusion of Quade Cooper has really sparked the Aussies this weekend as they continue to build from their Sydney Sevens outing. The input by Head Coach Andy Friend has really shown fruit in a short span off time.
The Japanese have really made progress as the series progresses and thanks largely to the influence of it’s Pacific island players who play vital roles in each of their games, the Scots lack consistency which has always been their Achilles heel in past season but the team with the worst record this week is the English losing their final pool game 36-7.
Pool C: Fiji 15-12 Argentina, Samoa 17-31 France.
Fiji recovered from the mauling that the Samoans gave them in the first game to win their last two games and book their quarter final spot with a hard fought victory over the Argentinians in their final pool game.
They changed their starting lineup, rectified simple errors and displayed good team effort to overcome their opponents, the Samoans looked like a team who only trained for that one game against Fiji losing all their games to date which again showed their ‘lukewarm’ season. The French finally found their rhythm on Day two to humble Samoa.
Pool D: South Africa 29-0 USA, Canada 10-17 Wales.
The Bliztboks are the team to beat this weekend and their rounded up their pool games outclassing the hosts as they booked a quarter final spot against the Kiwis. The USA only got through to the Cup Qurters thanks to the Welsh Scarlets defeating the Canadian side who earlier held the Americans to a draw in Day One.
Bowl Quarter-Final Results:
The Scots recovered from their surprise loss to the Japanese to beat the Samoans, the French added salt to the English wound defeating them to leave the English without a win in four games here at the Las Vegas Sevens, with the Wales side led by Luke Treharne again handing the Portugal side with a loss and the Russians wrapped up the Bowl quarter final games with a victory over next weekends hosts Canada.
Scotland 17-12 Samoa, France 21-19 England, Wales 31-12 Portugal, Russia 19-10 Canada.
Cup Quarter-Final Results:
After A brilliant performance over the Kiwis the Kenyans lost the plot against the hosts as they were brought down back to reality with the Americans winning after dominating the breakdown 14-26.
The Fijians will be thankful to Samoa if they win the Las Vegas Sevens as they minimized their mistakes, turned opportunity into points and played like men possessed to thrash the surprise package of the tournament Japan 43-7.
The Kiwis brought Liam Messam in to start this game but was to no avail as the South Africans continue their fine form frustrating the Kiwis to a 14-7 victory. The South Africans are on fire and if teams don’t stop them it will another victory for them this weekend.
The Aussies will face the Blitzboks in the semis after overcoming a gutsy Los Pumas outfit 26-12, the Thunderbolts are on a roll and will hope for a good finish come day three.
Kenya 14-26 USA, Fiji 43-7 Japan, South Africa 14-7 New Zealand, Australia 26-12 Argentina.

Cup Semi-finals: USA vs Fiji, South Africa vs Australia.
Sin City is ready for Day three of action, after the fans and players were treated to some live music from pop artist OMI and they look forward to what the organised have up their sleeve for tomorrow the sack racing competition too among spectators was a hit. The players are ready for Day three so are the vocal spectators, who will it be?
