Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, will return to the side tonight vs the Indiana Pacers. Kerr missed the first-half of the regular season suffering due to a back injury. The reigning NBA champions will have their head coach back on the side lines tonight.
After winning the NBA championship last year, Kerr decided for the off-season back surgery, which was supposed to heal before the regular season started. Complications arose (Spinal Leak) and kept Kerr grounded until tonight.
Luke Walton, Golden State’s assistant coach, has served as interim head coach in the wake of Kerr’s absence. Walton, has helped guide the Warriors to a NBA best 39-4 record. The record is the second-best through 43-game in NBA history. (Trailing the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls who were 40-3).
Walton was named NBA Coach of the Month in November. The Warriors started the season with 24-consecutive victories. Kerr has gotten credit for all of Walton’s victories.
Kerr will be stepping back on the court for the first time since last June, when Golden State won the NBA title. Kerr has remained in active role during his absence. He was on team road trips last month, giving constant lineup input to Walton and the coaching staff.
Kerr is in his second season as Golden State’s head coach. Kerr returns to a three-game home stand vs the Pacers, Spurs, and Mavericks.
Walton, did a great job with the Warriors during Steve Kerr’s absence. But, Golden State will be better (if that’s possible) with Kerr calling the shots from the bench. Kerr’s true test will come against the Spurs, which some are saying is the regular season game of the year.
