Nick Evans Re-signs for Harlequins

Harlequins has announced today, Tuesday 22nd December, that fly-half Nick Evans has re-signed with the Club.

Commenting on the news the 35 year-old said: “Harlequins has been the biggest part of my professional career and I am so proud to have been given the opportunity to continue at this great Club.

“The potential that this group of players has is incredibly exciting and I’m looking forward to being able to help the squad unlock its potential and reach our domestic and European goals once again.”

Widely regarded as one of the best play makers in world rugby, Evans joined Harlequins in 2008 from Super Rugby side The Blues.

The mercurial fly-half has been one of the masterminds of Harlequins’ success in recent years, unlocking the Club’s attacking potential with his deceptive pace and his lethal ability to expose defensive weaknesses.

Kicking the winning touchline conversion during the 2011 Amlin Challenge Cup Final and scoring 20 points during the 2012 Aviva Premiership Final victory, Evans is also a consistent points machine.

In 2013, he overtook current Club President Bob Hiller’s 37 year record as the Club’s record points scorer and has amassed an astonishing 2,024 points in 181 matches since his debut against Saracens in 2008. The fly-half is currently the highest scoring overseas player in the Aviva Premiership and is the leading points scorer in the league this season.

Evans made his international Test debut in 2004 for the All Blacks against England and won a total of 16 caps, scoring 103 points. Evans won the last of his international caps during Rugby World Cup 2007.

Away from the field, the keen fisherman uses his expertise to mentor the up and coming talent within the Club. A true professional on and off the field, he has written his name firmly into the Club’s history.

Confirming the news, Harlequins Director of Rugby, Conor O’Shea added: “Nick is the consummate professional and his competitiveness still burns more than it ever has.

“He is a massive influence on the group; a great role model for players both young and old and I have no doubt he will deliver for this Club when it counts for a few more years yet.

“He has become a true legend in the history of Harlequins and I am sure everyone involved in the Club will be delighted by the news.”
