Now that we are about halfway through the regular season, it is time to start considering which players are deserving of the Pro Bowl. For this series, we will look at the three most deserving candidates for each team. Obviously, some teams will have more or less than three players selected to the Pro Bowl, but for simplicity purposes, we will discuss the top three either way.
Top Midseason St. Louis Rams Pro Bowl Candidates
Todd Gurley
Gurley is arguably the best running back in the league already and he has only played in five full games (not counting his first game against Pittsburgh). Gurley’s first five NFL games: 146 yards, 159 yards, 128 yards and two touchdowns, 133 yards and a touchdown and most recently 89 yards and a touchdown. Gurley is fourth in the NFL in rushing yards with 664 and he has played in basically five games. The rookie looks explosive on the field and clearly Saint Louis made a great decision to gamble on his health. Few teams have a power running game in the NFL right now, and Gurley has reestablished Saint Louis’ offense. He is absolutely bound for the Pro-Bowl in 2016.
Aaron Donald
The second-year defensive tackle out of Pittsburgh is having a great year for Saint Louis. The Saint Louis defense is in the top five in yards allowed per game and Donald has been a major reason for this. He has been great at clogging up running lanes while also putting pressure on the quarterback. Donald has 4.5 sacks this season, ranking in the top five for defensive tackles (not defensive ends). Donald also has 19 total tackles and looks to be an anchor on the defensive line for years to come.
Robert Quinn
Robert Quinn has been the leading pass-rusher for the Saint Louis defense over the past few seasons. Quinn leads the team with 5.0 sacks this season and has registered 34.5 sacks since the start of 2013. While he may not be on pace for the 19.0 sacks he had in 2013, Quinn has been rushing plenty of throws and his presence has been felt throughout 2015. Teams are scheming to slow him down off the edge, freeing up lanes for his teammates to get to the quarterback. Quinn isn’t one of the names that come to mind when you think of elite defensive lineman, but his performance suggests he is a very good player.
