The Premiership’s Best 11 – With a Twist!

It would be relatively easy to pick the Premiership’s best 11 players, but to make it a little more challenging I decided to limit my choices to only one player from each team at most.  Certainly that puts a much different twist and instantly made me reconsider some of my choices.  So you can have Yaya, but not Kompany.  Decisions will need to be made and it won’t be easy. I love this kind of thing, the banter in the local over a few pints, the arguments it causes.  Anyway, let’s get started.  I am going to do simple 4-4-2 formation, no diamonds, crystals or any other fade formation.  Let’s keep it simple.

Goalkeeper – Simon Mignonette (Sunderland) joined the Black Cats in 2010 and is still only 24, but has become a top flight goalkeeper, adding another of the ever-increasing Belgian continent in the Prem. In my view he could go right to the very top and Sunderland will struggle to keep him.

Right Back -Fabio Da Silva(QPR) is currently on loan from Man Utd.  He loves going forward very quick, and even though very small he’s very welling to put a foot in.

Centre Back -Vincent Kompany (Man City) joined the team in 2008 and has proven to be a bargain at $6 million. He is in my view an ideal centre half; great in the air, quick on the ground, a born winner and a classy man. I have the upmost respect for him as a top class player.

Centre Back – Jan Vertonghen (Spurs) joined White Hart Lane in the summer and has proven himself at fullback or centre back, looking assured and taking the Premiership in his stride.  No question, Jan is a quality player.

Left Back – Leighton Baines (Everton) joined Everton in 2007, and two years later helped them to the FA Cup final.  Also an England international, Baines was named to the Premier League Team of the Year as its LB.

Midfield – Robert Snodgrass (Norwich) may be a surprise to some, but he has a quality left foot since he joined the Canaries in the summer and his proven his class scoring 5 times and assisting in plenty more.

Midfield – Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), after being out for over a year and a half, came back slowly, but in the last 6 weeks has been quite awesome and showing the class that got him in the England squad.

Midfield – Michu (Swansea), at 2 million pounds, is without doubt the bargain of the century looking like he’s worth at least 15million now.  He’s quick and is deadly in front of goal.  A real talent.

Midfield – Juan Mata(Chelsea) has been producing quality performances week after week despite Chelsea’s up and down season.  He has a sublime left foot and it’s truly amazing that he only has 20 caps for Spain.  Of course that’s more to do with a backlog of Spanish talent though.

Forward – Luis Suarez (Liverpool) is a player that divides people because of his antics, but as a striker he’s top drawer. Quick and lethal in the box, he can also produce that sheer quality only the best can do.

Forward – Robin Van Persie (Man Utd) is quite simply the best goal scorer in the Premier League, without question.  He has great movement, a phenomenal goal to game ratio, and when the pressure is on, he will deliver time and again.  He really is that special.

So that’s my Premiership 11. It’s difficult  leaving out the likes of Rooney, Yaya and others, which might surprise a few. The right back was difficult as well because most other quality RB’s I had already used players from their team’s already.  For the most part I feel quite confident in my picks as these are players who have impressed me greatly this season.

As I predicted at the start, it was far from easy to get the final 11 players.  I invite you to try it and let me know how you manage.  I will say that it’s certainly harder than it looks, I promise.
