This season Last Word on Sports will be keeping you up to date on the Arsenal players out on loan, as they continue to develop their skills and prove they are ready to compete for a place in the Arsenal side. There are currently twelve players out on loan from Arsenal.
The players already away on loan are:
- Wojciech Szczesny (GK), on loan to AS Roma in Serie A
- Carl Jenkinson (RB), on loan to West Ham United in the Premier League
- Yaya Sanogo (ST), on loan to Ajax in the Eredivisie
- Serge Gnabry (MID), on loan to West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League
- Ainsley Maitland-Niles (MID), on loan to Ipswich Town in the Championship
- Isaac Hayden (CB/MID), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
- Chuba Akpom (ST), on loan to Hull City in the Championship
- Daniel Crowley (MID), on loan to Barnsley in League One
- Jon Toral (MID), on loan to Birmingham City in the Championship
- Emiliano Martinez (GK), on loan to Wolves in the Championship
- Wellington Silva (MID), on loan to Bolton in the Championship
- Gedion Zelalem (MID), on loan to Rangers in the Scottish Championship
Clean Sheet for Emiliano Martinez Highlights Weekend of Loan Action
Wojciech Szczesny missed Roma’s draw 2-2 with Sassuolo through injury. Szczesny dislocated his finger in a collision with Barcelona’s Luis Suarez in Roma’s 1-1 draw with last year’s champions. The Arsenal GK had to be replaced in the match and is set to miss up to six weeks.
Carl Jenkinson started and played 85 minutes as West Ham continued their giant killing ways, defeating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad. Jenkinson was solid defensively, making two interceptions, two blocks, and 10 clearances while committing zero fouls in the win.
Yaya Sanogo once again failed to make an appearance for Ajax as they won 2-0 over Exelsior.
Serge Gnabry made the gameday 18 but did not get on the pitch as West Brom beat Aston Villa.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles played 80 minutes for Ipswich as they drew 1-1 with Birmingham City. The midfielder attempted two shots and created two chances for teammates, but completed only 63 percent of his passes. For Birmingham City, Jon Toral was an unused substitute.
Isaac Hayden was an unused substitute for Hull City as they drew 1-1 with QPR. Chuba Akpom came on in the 65th minute but was unable to break the tie.
Daniel Crowley did not feature as Barsnely drew 1-1 at Blackpool.
Wolves’ 0-0 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion saw a clean sheet for Emiliano Martinez, who saved the draw. Martinez saved Tomer Hemed’s penalty attempt in the 23rd minute and also managed to keep out the follow-up attempt from the rebound. Wolves played most of the second half with 10 men, but Martinez’s eight saves preserved the point. It was Martinez’ first clean sheet of the season in his fourth league appearance. Wolves have no wins, two losses, and two draws in Martinez’ four starts. So far, Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has seemed unsure on who his number one keeper is, using both Martinez and veteran Carl Ikeme. Last week, Jackett seemed to suggest he favors Martinez, saying:
There’s no clause that he has to play. I believe in the player. He’s had a shaky game or two, on Saturday we saw what he’s capable of. I’ve got a lot of confidence in Emi Martinez, I think he’s going to have a top season.”

Wellington Silva played 63 minutes as Bolton lost 4-1 to Huddersfield Town. There was not much positive for Bolton on the day, and Wellington didn’t do anything to stand out above his teammates.
Gedion Zelalem played the full 90 as Rangers continued their perfect league start to the season with a 2-1 win over Dumbarton. Zelalem nearly opened the scoring just seconds after kick-off as Spurs loanee Dominic Ball played a ball over the top that that the keeper was barely first to.
