Alexander Rossi had an absolutely stellar debut full Grand Prix weekend. After only getting the call on Tuesday, he kept it out of the barriers for the most part and despite a radio communication issue, he was able to beat his team mate on the circuit on what appeared to be complete merit. It was an impressive run for the American who arguably performed better than compatriots Scott Speed and Michael Andretti on their respective Formula 1 debuts.
2015 Singapore Grand Prix Manor Review
No. 28 Will Stevens
Qualifying: P19 (P19 after gearbox change)
Race: P14
Stevens looked off-key all weekend here on his first visit to Singapore. However, he delivered a lap half a second quicker than what his new team mate could manage which was quite a margin. However, he seemed to struggle in the race and he seemed to almost always be behind on the circuit by around five seconds or so, and finished behind in the race.
No. 53 Alexander Rossi
Qualifying: P19 (P19 after gearbox change)
Race: P13
Rossi’s lone mistake this weekend was a small crash into the tunnel in one of the practice sessions. Other than that he kept it pretty clean this weekend. There was a bit of confusion regarding overtaking the safety car during the second neutralisation period but it emerged that was due to Rossi not having any radio communication. Arguably that makes his performance look all the more better. He looked more comfortable than Stevens for much of the weekend and that definitely showed in the race. He also didn’t look to cause too many problems regarding being lapped despite his radio issues so that’s a good sign for the immediate future. However if I were Gene Haas, unless he has his two drivers already confirmed (Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean if rumours are to be believed) then he should keep a close eye on Rossi.
